Your child is getting help. Thank god. You’ve been hoping they would see how much they need to go through a Residential Detox program for Oxycodone Treatment, or maybe they are struggling with another kind of addiction. Either way you’re so grateful they are safe and seeking professional help to recover from their struggles.

How can you show them support while they go through addiction recovery?

Don’t Abandon Them

The most important thing you can do for your child right is to be present with them in their pain and struggles. Addicts often are dragged down by their personal perception of the way their loved ones feel about them, or how their parents or loved ones may act when they have laid their addiction bare, in the wide open, for everyone to see.

Care for Yourself

Seek out professional help yourself. Therapy is a good choice for everyone. Having a child who is going through the kind of difficult struggle that is drug or alcohol addiction can be heartbreaking. You should remember that, like your child, if you don’t take care of yourself and love yourself to the best of your ability, you can never truly help care for anyone else. If your needs aren’t met, you can not help them meet their needs. When you’re looking for a therapist, make sure you read up on their specialities and what kind of clients they usually work with . It is important to make sure whomever you work with has the kind of expertise you need to succeed and who offer the types of therapy necessary to teach you how to thrive.

Be Corny

Write them corny notes about how proud you are and how much you love them. Okay, I know you’re suspicious of this one, but let me let you in on a little secret you may already know. After all, you were a kid with parents once. Kids, teens, and young men may gag, or barf, or smile and shake their heads when you tell them you love them, are fully proud of who they are and who they are becoming, but they need it oh so badly. Secretly it makes them bloom inside.
