Celebrate Your Newfound Sobriety without Compromising The Progress You’ve Made

Finishing with oxycodone withdrawal symptoms, residential detox, and rehab treatment are no joke. You’re back from rehab, You’ve worked tirelessly, and you should celebrate how far you’ve come! Celebrating success is one of the best ways to ensure continued victories in any habit-changing efforts. Just make sure you’re celebrating in a way that bolsters your sobriety instead of hindering it.


Go to Disney World

You know, making it through Oxycodone treatment in Florida is way harder than winning the Super Bowl! Maybe you don’t want to go off to the happiest place on earth, theme parks aren’t your thing, but give yourself a pat on the back with something more than just your hand! Consider allowing yourself a spa day, if you can afford it. Or maybe take yourself out for a new outfit. If you don’t have the money for all of that, plan a wonderful day for yourself. Take a picnic to the park. Lay under a tree and watch the shapes in the clouds form and shift. Relax and remind yourself that you deserve every ounce of peace you can find.


Take a Staycation

When you get out of Rehab, it may feel like you want to run away. Leaving town will only make coming back even harder. Try to stay in your space and make it yours again. It’s not a terrible idea to take some time to yourself but you should maybe consider taking that vacation time at home.


Allow Yourself Some Comfort

It can be tempting to cut out anything unhealthy, to exercise constantly, to flood your system with water, and to do everything you can to make your sobriety a success. But keep in mind, being too strict with yourself can end up backfiring. Find a few ways that you can offer yourself some comfort can help you maintain your sobriety, because you won’t be reaching for a drink or the pill bottle if you have given yourself the permission to have a bowl of ice cream, or some popcorn out at the movies. You can take yourself out to buy a new dress or some fly shoes. But make sure you give yourself the room to do those sorts of things that make you feel good, now and again. Doing them too much can hurt you, but leaving yourself permission to do them occasionally can really help solidify your sobriety.


Don’t forget that sobriety will be a constant choice you have to make. Celebrating doesn’t mean an end to the struggle with addiction. It means you see the efforts you put in, you see your own  persistence, and that you’re proud of yourself. And you should be. After going through withdrawal from Oxycodone, and experiencing the physical and emotional trauma that goes along with any addiction, you’re coming through to a sober life.
