How a Partial Hospitalization Program in Pompano Works
While most people already understand what inpatient rehab and outpatient programs are and the big differences between these two types of addiction treatment methods, there is another type of rehab program available, which is called the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Just to clarify if you are unsure what the terms mean, inpatient (also known as residential) alcohol or drug addiction has the patient stay at the rehab facility for a set number of days while going through monitored detox and rehabilitation. Conversely, outpatient rehab programs tend to offer a few meetups every week where the addict’s progress can be monitored and he or she can discuss what they are going through with a therapist who specializes in drug addiction and/or in a group setting where the patient can relate to, help, and be helped by those who are also going through a rehab program.
Not Quite Outpatient…
Our Partial Hospitalization Program in Pompano, FL, offers those who have found themselves addicted to alcohol or a drug (or multiple substances) another highly effective treatment option. Technically speaking, partial hospitalization programs are intensive outpatient treatment. However, as noted above, most outpatient programs only have the patient go to the rehab center when they have a specific meeting or therapy that they are scheduled to attend.
The reason our Pompano partial hospitalization program is technically an intensive outpatient program rehab (sometimes referred to as IOP Rehab) is for a couple reasons. As implied by the “outpatient” part of this, PHP patients are free to go home during their detox and rehabilitation. Still, where the partial hospitalization program offered here at 1st Step Behavioral Health truly differentiates itself from regular outpatient treatment and is referred to as intensive outpatient rehab is the amount of time the patient ends up staying at the facility.
And Not Quite Inpatient
In fact, the treatment that the partial hospitalization program in South Florida offers is actually much more similar to that which an inpatient rehab patient receives. That being said, if you or a family member decides to go through alcohol or drug addiction rehab through our PHP, you will spend every day of your detox period at our rehab center and you will pretty much do everything here that you would do if you were a residential addiction treatment patient. The only substantial difference between inpatient addiction care and our partial hospitalization program is that patients in PHP rehab go home to sleep at night.
A Flexible Option
Because patients go home at night during their drug addiction rehab, the partial hospitalization program allows for some flexibility when it comes to receiving care. This adaptability allows patients who have children to care for, a strict workplace, or some other responsibility to continue with their everyday needs while still receiving the intensive rehab care needed to fully detox and have a life free from the negative impacts of drug or alcohol abuse.
